Four Last Songs with the Bergen Philharmonic

Lise reunites with Edward Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic this month for two performances of Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs. The concerts take place at Bergen’s Grieghallen on 14 and 15 February. Lise is a regular guest of the orchestra and was Artist in Residence last season, singing Sibelius, Wagner and Grieg in concert as well as performing in recital with James Baillieu.

In contrast to the adolescent daring of his overture Don Juan, Strauss’s Four Last Songs were the composer’s resigned farewell to creative life and an elegy for Germany, destroyed by fascism and war.

Lise sings Strauss Opus 27 songs with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra

Lise joins the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra on 8 February to perform Strauss Opus 27 songs under the baton of Vasily Petrenko. The four songs of Op.27 were originally scored for voice and piano and set words from poems by Heinrich Hart, Karl Henckell and John Henry Mackay. Lise returns to the works of Strauss later this season when she reunites with Petrenko and the Oslo Philharmonic to sing the composer’s famous Four Last Songs in March. She also makes her debut at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in their new production of Ariadne auf Naxos.

Elsewhere this month, Lise continues her artistic residency with the Bergen Philharmonic when she returns with pianist James Baillieu for an operatic recital at Bergen’s University Aula on 7 February. She also joins the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra to sing in Beethoven Symphony No.9 on 22 and 24 February.

First concert as Bergen Philharmonic Artist-in-Residence

Lise joins Edward Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic in Bergen’s City Square on 18 August 2017 for a free open air concert centred on the works of Grieg. The concert also marks the beginning of Lise’s season as the orchestra’s Artist in Residence, during which she gives performances of Wagner, Sibelius and Verdi alongside recitals with James Baillieu. She also joins Gardner and the orchestra for a recording session for Chandos in May 2018.

Lise then travels to Ireland for the Wexford Opera Festival, where she sings the title role of Cherubini Medea from 19 October. Elsewhere this season she also makes her debut at Wiener Staatsoper in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos and performs in concert with the Oslo Philharmonic.
