Lise debuts at Wiener Staatsoper in Ariadne auf Naxos

Lise makes another highly-anticipated debut this month as she gives her first performance at the Wiener Staatsoper on 23 November. Lise returns to the title role of Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, her third time singing the role this year after productions with Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Arctic Philharmonic. She stars alongside Rachel Frenkel as the Composer, Stephen Gould as Bacchus and Erin Morley as Zerbinetta, who also sung the role at Glyndebourne. Sven-Eric Bechtolf’s production is also performed on 26 and 29 November, with Peter Schneider conducting. Lise sings Ariadne again later in the season, starring in a new production at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. In December, she begins her Bergen Philharmonic artistic residency with a recital of songs by Grieg, Sibelius, Brahms and Strauss with pianist James Baillieu. The residency also features performances of Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder and Sibelius’ tone poem for soprano and orchestra, Luonnator.

Debut as Medea at Wexford Festival Opera

Lise makes her latest role and house debut on 19 October, singing the title role in Cherubini’s rarely performed Medea at the Wexford Festival. This new production is directed by Fiona Shaw and conducted by Stephen Barlow. Based upon Euripides’ tragedy, the opera draws upon Pierre Corneille’s 1635 play Médée.

This season Lise makes two more house debuts in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos, at Wiener Staatsoper in November and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence later in the season. She also embarks upon an artistic residency with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Other concert engagements include Beethoven Symphony No.9 with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Strauss Op. 27 songs with the Oslo Philharmonic.

Lise debuts at the BBC Proms with the BBC Philharmonic

Lise returns to London on 10 August to make her BBC Proms debut alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor John Storgårds. Lise joins the orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall to perform Sibelius Luonnotar and excerpts from Grieg Peer Gynt.

The concert is Lise’s second major UK debut of the summer, following her critically acclaimed performances in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos at Glyndebourne:

Lise returns to Norway after her appearance at the Proms to begin the new season as the Bergen Philharmonic‘s Artist in Residence. Lise starts her residency with an open air concert in Bergen’s City Square with Edward Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic. The residency, which continues throughout the season, features performances of Wagner and Sibelius as well as recitals with James Baillieu.

Other highlights in the forthcoming season include the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos in company debuts with Wiener Staatsoper and Festival d’Aix en Provence, the title role of Medea in Wexford and numerous recital and concert appearances including Strauss’s Op. 27 Songs and Vier letzte Lieder with the Oslo Philharmonic and Wesendonk Lieder with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.

Debut at Glyndebourne in Ariadne auf Naxos

Lise makes her debut at Glyndebourne Festival Opera on 25 June, performing in the title role of Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos. Lise stars in a cast that also features Sir Thomas Allen, Erin Morley and Angela Brower. Katharina Thoma directs this revival of her 2013 production, which updates the opera to an English country house in the 1940s. Ariadne auf Naxos was the first opera to be performed at Glyndebourne in 1950 and remains the Strauss opera most performed at the house.

The production, which runs until 27 July, is Lise’s second Ariadne of the season, following a critically acclaimed performance with the Arctic Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra. Watch her “ecstatic” (Bachtrack) performance of Ariadne’s aria, ‘Es gibt ein Reich’, below.

Looking ahead, Lise follows Ariadne auf Naxos with her debut at the BBC Proms on 10 August. She joins the BBC Philharmonic and conductor John Storgårds to perform Sibelius’ Luonnotar and excerpts from Grieg’s Peer Gynt. She also sings Ariadne again in November, this time at the Wiener Staatsoper.

London recital debut at Wigmore Hall

Lise makes her London recital debut on 9 May 2017 at the Rosenblatt Recital Series at Wigmore Hall. Accompanied by James Baillieu, Lise performs songs and arias by Grieg, Sibelius, Giordano, Verdi, Cherubini, Mascagni, Wagner and Strauss.

So far this season, Lise has made a series of notable role and house debuts: as Agathe in a new production of Der Freischütz at Opernhaus Zürich, Isabella Das Liebesverbot at Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires and Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana at Norwegian National Opera. This summer she makes a highly anticipated debut at Glyndebourne Festival Opera in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos and appears at the BBC Proms with John Storgards and the BBC Philharmonic.

Engagements next season include her Wiener Staatsoper and Aix-en-Provence debuts as well as numerous concert and recital appearances, including a residency with the Bergen Philharmonic.

Role and house debut as Isabella in Das Liebesverbot at Teatro Colon

Lise travels to Buenos Aires this month to sing her first Isabella in Wagner Das Liebesverbot at Teatro Colon, her debut with the company. Kasper Holten’s new production is conducted by Oliver von Dohnányi.

Lise’s run as Isabella is one of a series of major role and house debuts this season, beginning with Agathe Der Freischütz at Opernhaus Zürich and including Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana at Norwegian National Opera and Ariadne auf Naxos with North Norwegian Opera and Symphony Orchestra, a role that she reprises this summer for her much-anticipated UK debut with Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

Das Liebesverbot will run from 25 April until 2 May.

Role debut in title role of Ariadne auf Naxos with Arctic Philharmonic

Lise makes her debut in the title role of Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos this month with the Arctic Philharmonic, beginning the run at the Stormen Konserthus in Bodø on 17 March. The production is conducted by Christian Kluxen, with direction from Katharina Jakhelln Semb. Lise sings the role in Bodø again on 19 March as well as at Kulturhuset Tromsø on 21 and 23 March.

Lise reprises the role for her forthcoming UK debut with Glyndebourne Festival Opera in June. Her other highlights this season include Isabella in Wagner Das Liebesverbot at the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, and a Rosenblatt Recital at London’s Wigmore Hall.

Debut at the Concertgebouw with Four Last Songs

Lise travels to Amsterdam this month to give her debut performance at the Concertgebouw, singing Strauss Four Last Songs with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Edo de Waart on 29 January. They also perform the piece at the Tivoli Vredenburg concert Hall in Utrecht on 27 January.

Lise also sings the Four Last Songs in February with the Oslo Philharmonic. Further highlights for Lise this season include her debut at this summer’s Glyndebourne Festival Opera in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos, which she also sings this season with Arctic Opera and the Philharmonic Orchestra. She also makes her role debut as Isabella in Wagner’s Das Liebesverbot at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

Role debut as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana

Lise makes her role debut as Santuzza in Mascagni Cavalleria rusticana with Norwegian National Opera on 17 December 2016. Performing under the baton of Robert Trevino and directed by Kasper Holten and Paul Curran, Lise stars alongside Marita Sølberg, Henrik Engelsviken and Yngve Søberg.

Santuzza is Lise’s second role debut of the season, following Agathe in Der Freischütz at Opernhaus Zürich in September. She makes a third major debut next summer when she sings the title role of Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos for Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

Debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra

 

Lise makes her debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra on 3 November in a performance of Verdi Requiem conducted by Edward Gardner at the Royal Festival Hall in London. She will be joined by soloists Karen Cargill, René Barbera, and Alexander Vinogradov, as well as the Rodolfus Choir and the Philharmonia Voices.

Following her performance in London, Lise takes part in the 23rd Grand Opera Gala at the Deutsche Oper Berlin on 5 November. Davidsen will sing alongside a star line-up that includes Patrizia Ciofi, Gregory Kunde, Edwin Crossley-Mercer and Michael Spyres, whilst William Spaulding conducts the choir and orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The proceeds from the charity event will benefit the work of the German AIDS Foundation in Germany and the project HOPE Cape Town in South Africa.

Further engagements this season include Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana at the Norwegian National Opera, as well as the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos with both North Norway Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera 2017.
